“Drum Roll Please! And the winner is…”
Saying good-bye to Liberty Jane has been a mourning process of sorts for me. I know to a lot of you, it might seem trivial. However, Liberty Jane was a character I had written about for almost a year and grown to love. So, it was difficult for me when I had to change the name Jane. It was not just her middle name; she was called Liberty Jane as if it was her firstname. Trying to pick a new name, wasn’t happening. I must confess, these last 6 weeks Liberty ? has been headless in my mind. No gore or blood, just… no head. I believe after my own self psych examination, (I opted from a real one for fear they might try to commit me to a mental institution) that the reason she has been headless is because she was name less. I only viewed her as Liberty Jane and without the Jane; I was having a hard time “seeing” her.
When my friend Terah mentioned having people vote on the name, I loved the idea because I just couldn’t re-name her myself. I am so glad I left the name up to you! It took the pressure off me and I have loved the feedback I have been getting by email, Facebook messages and texts.
I have added up the votes of my online poll from my author page, Desperate Housewives website (which will be up and running after the Mt. Hermon Writer’s Conference in 11 days) and my 5th Grade Poll.
All three polls, I used the same names in the same order.

Layne is the winner!
I looked up the name Layne to see what it means and found it befitting the person I wrote Liberty to exemplify. Loyal, Trustworthy, on the right path, and enjoying life. Liberty Layne O’Shea, I am excited you will be headless no more!
Thank you to everyone who voted and I am sorry to those of you whose name didn’t win L
Look for Paige, Skye, Belle and Kate to appear as characters in future books!

Good job, Shaylene. I’m sorry you had to go through all that in the first place!
