Don’t get me wrong, I think New Year resolutions are a good idea and for some, they may work well. I have tried in the past to make my resolutions stick, but to no avail. I end up frustrated and feeling like a failure, so I just quit. For 2018, I decided I would crush my resolutions. I researched articles on how to follow through with them and be successful. In the process, I stumbled on an article about mantras.
Mantras are rooted in Buddhism. They are words or sounds repeated to help in meditation. They have become synonymous though with slogans or mottos too.
I LOVE words. They are posted in almost every room of my house. Words have power, I knew that which is why I chose to speak on the power of words recently at a high school leadership conference. So, I was quite fascinated with the article. The basic premise was, instead of coming up with a list of resolutions, create for yourself a “mantra” or slogan you will use to speak over every aspect of your life for this new year. It’s not specific to just one thing so it’s FAIL proof! And, like the power of words, if you say them enough, you will start to believe them.
I tossed my resolutions, choosing instead to become resolute in creating a mantra for myself.
I loved the idea I could adopt some of the concepts of mantras like meditation and make them personal to me. I’m a bible girl so I meditate on my mantras through prayer, with scripture and yoga. I started Holy Yoga last year, you can check it out here in case you’re interested: Holy Yoga. I couldn’t choose just one mantra so I came up with two for 2018.
My mantras for 2018 are:
“I Speak To My Mountains”: I chose this as a mantra because there are BIG things I want to accomplish, BIG things I need to do, and BIG ways I need to act. Some are really exciting but many will require me to step out in faith and start the tough climb UP my mountains.
These are a few verses I choose to help and encourage me. 🙂
Mark 10:27: Looking to them, Jesus said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God.”
Matthew 17:20: “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,’and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
My second mantra:
“I Feel the Fear And Move Anyways.”
Fear has a way of destroying great opportunities and possibilities if we let it get in the way. Anyone who knows me knows I have struggled with self doubt. I have grown so much in these areas over the years, but they can still rear their ugly heads. Insecurity can give way to fear. It would be easier if I did nothing and stood in the shadow of my fears, I’m good at it! This year, I will name those fears, face them and move anyways.
Psalm 118:6 “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God did not give us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love and self-discipline.”
Do you have a mantara for 2018? If you had a mantra, what would yours be?

Loved this! I am almost done with my own website too! 😍
In my single moms group we asked God to give us 1 word for the year. God gave me the word “thrive” and when He gave it to me, He said “last year you learned how to survive and this year I want you to thrive” so my mantra lately has been…
“Don’t just survive…THRIVE”
If I’m homeschooling or working or cooking or managing my daily schedule or at the doctor or in the store or driving…I have prayed this over and over and keep asking God to show me how to not just survive, but to thrive! I hope many are spurred on by your blog girl! I know I am!!💞
